Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and other islands are also known as the Spanish Virgin Isles. Vieques is also colloquially known as “Isla Nena” or “Little Girl Island”.

Vieques is located 8 miles east of Puerto Rico’s mainland, and measures about 21 miles long by 4 miles wide. Its beaches are commonly listed among the top beaches in the Caribbean for their azure-coloured waters and white sands. The famous Bio-Luminescent Bay and, the Paso Fino “fine-stepping” horses is among the many attractions of this Caribbean Island.

The biggest hotel on Vieques is the luxury “W Hotel Resort and Spa” with 156 rooms and prices up to and exceeding $2,000 per night per room. Most of the smaller hotels are also expensive.

Currently, there is little availability of low-cost accommodation, consequently hostel units have only recently been built.
